The delta of the Aliakmonas river hosts one of the few pairs of the white-tailed sea eagle in Greece?

With wingspan of 190 – 240 cm and characteristic white tail on the mature birds, the sea eagle is the biggest eagle in Greece and in Europe. It can be seen quite often in the wetland of Nea Agathoupoli during winter, as it feeds mainly on waders, but also on mammals, fish and even carrion. With a little bit of luck you may enjoy its slow, graceful flight above the wetland from the observation tower of Nea Agathoupoli.
